Yogic & Mindful Movement - Dragon Spirit Arts Studio
These classes bring together the Martial art movements of Vinyasa Flow Yoga with the Internal art meditation practices of Qi-gong. This fusion-style practice is rooted in traditional disciplines, exploring breath-work exercises, self- massage techniques, various sequences of still poses and rhythmic posture flows. Emphasis is placed on synchronized breathing and energizing sequences of flowing movement to cultivate the vital energy that aligns mind, body, and spirit! Wear comfortable/stretchy clothing.
Back to Basics (Poses & Posture Flow)
Working with a "beginner's mind," we take it back to basics. This class focuses on the fundamental principles of a healthy practice to help avoid injury that may be encountered at a more advanced stage. Plan to build solid foundations that will support a sustainable practice in years to come. The flow / Vinyasa aspect of this practice is slow paced, incorporating simple variations that don't necessarily involve plank to the upward dog (or even caterpillar to cobra). Appropriate for all levels of experience.
Bring your own yoga mat. Props (Blankets, Straps, Blocks, etc.) will be provided. Modified poses and posture flows will be offered as needed (please be sure to give advanced notice prior to attendance if there are any mobility issues, so we can plan accordingly).
- Fee: $120
- Instructor: To be announced. Experienced/Certified Teacher
- When: Tuesdays, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.; 10 Weeks, January 8 through March 12
T'ai Chi Moves (Moving Meditations)
This Moving Meditation practice cultivates centering the Mind, steadying the Heart and aligning the Body with the Breath. Expect an Internal Arts practice that incorporates performing excerpted movements based on the Traditional Family Style Martial Arts Forms. T'ai Chi Chuan is a moving meditation that sets into motion the Internal energy traveling through the body known as "Chi." As a healing element, this flow of "Chi" energy increases circulation, calms the mind, relaxes the muscles and heals nervous, organic and skeletal problems. Appropriate for all levels of experience.
We will practice breathing and moving meditation techniques to promote the flow of "Chi" energy through the body, plus partner exercises to develop a deeper awareness summarized by the words "relax" and "sink." This movement practice is accessible to most everyone and uses the entire space to take various parts of the forms across the floor (please be sure to give advanced notice prior to attendance if there are any mobility issues, so we can plan accordingly).
