Barbara Ehrenreich spent months laboring as a cleaning woman; as a waitress; & as a Wal-Mart sales clerk. Her revelations about these hard, supposedly "unskilled" jobs & the difficulty of making ends meet in the U.S. gives this book a powerful, personal edge. Reading this book helps our understanding of the working poor & what great challenges they face and also challenges our thoughts and beliefs about what is fair and just. The Book Discussion Leader: Wendy E. Chmielewski, Ph.D., is a Lansdowne resident. Wendy is Curator of the Swarthmore College Peace Collection. Please join Wendy and your neighbors for an informative and lively discussion about this revealing book. |
