Lock your Cars, and Watch your Copper!

The Lansdowne Police Department has seen an increase in the past several weeks in property crimes. In particular, two types of crimes have increased. #1 is thefts from vehicles. What makes this particularly disturbing to police is the fact that many of these vehicles have been left unlocked and valuable property was left inside these unlocked vehicles. This is an open invitation the thieves and it is a temptation they cannot resist. Please remember to lock your car whenever you are away from it. This means when you go to the convenience store, gas station and yes...even when you park it in your own private driveway. In addition, do not leave items of value in plain sight inside your vehicle. If there is nothing to catch a thief's eye, they may not give your car a second look.

We are also seeing an increase in the theft of recyclable materials which can be converted into quick cash. In our troubling economic times, some people turn to drastic measures to make some quick cash. In particular, we have noticed an increase in the theft of aluminum and copper downspouts from rain gutters. While these thefts usually occur from unoccupied homes, there are still steps that we can take to prevent this type of theft. Residents are reminded to keep an eye on not only your own home, but look out for your neighbors as well. Especially if you know they are at work or away for a period of time. Call 911 if you see or hear anything suspicious. Don't attempt to investigate on your own, leave that to the police. But by being our eyes and ears you are making a large contribution to protecting our community.

Remember, the only BAD call to police is the one that no one makes! You are not troubling us....that's our job!

Daniel J Kortan Jr.
Chief of Police

Borough Seeking Zoning Hearing Board Candidates

Lansdowne Borough is looking for candidates to join the Zoning Hearing Board. The Zoning Hearing Board members are appointed by the Borough Council, and we are currently soliciting letters of interest from residents who may be interested. There are no special requirements or degrees, however, the council does look favorably on individuals who are proactive in learning about zoning issues and have an interest in helping to plan our community's future.

Please send letters of interest to the Borough Manager at TotaroC@borough.lansdowne.pa.us, or drop one off at Borough Hall.

Housing Crisis Information

HOUSE Lansdowne Borough Council is very concerned about the National Housing Crisis facing homeowners who are victims of predatory lending and sub-prime mortgage foreclosures. This urgent situation can affect anyone at anytime. Maybe you lost your job. Maybe you have illness in your family and with that the high cost of health care. Maybe you took advantage of an Adjustable Rate Mortgage which has ballooned. If you find yourself in this predicament, don’t be a victim. There is help out there. Council has collected as much information as possible for Lansdowne residents about relief agencies and programs in this area. Click Here for information about and web addresses for several of these agencies.

Delaware County 2009 HHW/Computer/TV Collection Schedule

Household products containing toxic chemicals, like pesticides, oil-based paints, solvents, cleaning products, weed killers and automotive batteries can be a threat to people and the environment if improperly discarded. Never throw these materials into the trash as the toxic chemicals may harm sanitation workers or result in fires in collection vehicles. It is also not safe to pour them into a sink or a storm drain as they end up in the environment polluting the air, water, or soil.
