Recreation Department
The Recreation Department is located in the Twentieth Century Club building at 84 South Lansdowne Avenue. The Recreation Director has an office in the building and many of the recreation programs are hosted there, including marbles, piano, art, tot-lot, tai chi and yoga. Other programs like tennis and soccer are held in other locations. Three times a year a program brochure is mailed and delivered to the local schools with a listing of the programs for that season, the brochure is also available at the Borough Hall, the library and the Recreation Department. In the summer on Friday mornings, the Recreation Department through a grant from Lansdowne Allied Youth Council, runs a series of shows for 6 weeks, having live entertainment including a story teller, puppet show, the Philadelphia Zoo, musical performers and much more. Day trips are also available at certain times of the year. Check program brochures for current activity. The Recreation and Park Board sponsors Park Day, a family day at Hoffman Park in September. Children's games and contests, pony rides and refreshments are just some of the activities included. Recreation and Park BoardMeets on the third Monday of the month at 7:30pm at Borough Hall. The board consists of nine members, each of whom shall be appointed by Borough Council to serve for a term of three years. The purpose of this organization is to maintain,operate and supervise the public parks, play-fields and all outdoor recreation areas and facilities owned or operated by the Borough of Lansdowne subject to the approval of Borough Council. [top] There are nine borough parks:The Parks close at dusk. Permits are required for the use of the fields and tennis courts for teams. Group use of the parks requires a permit from the Recreation Department. Hoffman Park — 8 acres with baseball and soccer ields, basketball courts, four tennis courts, pavillion, swings bathrooms and picnic tables. Location: Scottdale Road. Hays Park — 1.2 acres with basketball courts, tot-lot toys, swings, slide and picnic tables. Location: Nyack and Sayers Avenues. Interboro Park — 3 acres with basketball courts, tot-lot toys, swings and slide. Location: Cedar & Walnut Aves. Belmont Park — 3.9 acres with basketball courts, swings, slide, tot-lot toys and big toys. Location: Belmont & Plumstead Aves. Sycamore Park — 1 acre meditative setting with benches. Home of the symbol of Lansdowne, its 300 year old Sycamore tree. Location: LaCrosse & Wycombe Aves. Reservoir Park — 1.4 acres, undeveloped. Location: Greenwood and Ardmore Avenue. Pennock Woods — 6.5 acres of County open space with Lansdowne Bird Sanctuary. Location: Pennock Terrace. Shrigley Woods — 6.5 acres of undeveloped County open space. Location: Scottdale & Hilldale Rds. Marlyn Park — 3 acres, passive park. Location: Willowbrook & Marlyn Aves. [top] |
