Dear Lansdowne Residents,
I hope this finds everyone safe and are enjoying the summer as best you can. As Mayor I can say 2020 has been the most challenging year I have ever experienced. Unfortunately the pandemic has not abated so that means we need to continue to practice social distancing, wearing masks and just being smart about our gatherings. This is important not just for Lansdowne but for all of Delaware County to help keep the numbers from rising. To help with that we are working with the County to offer free Covid-19 testing here in Lansdowne. The dates for the testing are August 11th, 12th, 13th at the Highland Ave parking lot next to the firehouse. It is open to any resident 12 years and older with or without insurance. If you are insured please bring your insurance information, there is no copay. Everyone being tested must wear a mask. All the information is available on the flyer on the Borough website. This testing is open to anyone especially if you have symptoms or have been exposed to someone that may have coronavirus or if you were exposed to a large gathering. Essential workers, first responders and people in the high risk group are urged to take advantage of this free testing. I hope if any of these situations apply to you you will consider getting tested. Remember not only are you protecting yourself but are also protecting your family, friends, neighbors and your community. Please continue to wear a mask and be smart. This is real but we will get through this together.
Just recently Lansdowne lost a good friend and a great supporter. Former State Representative Nick Micozzie passed away at the age of 89. Nick served as State Representative for 35 years. He was a true public servant and even though we may have been on different sides of the political aisle he was always willing to listen and work for what was best for his constituents. I really respected him for that because I also believe that is the way it should be. He was instrumental in helping complete many projects here in Lansdowne. Projects like Sycamore Park, Lansdowne Train Station, War Memorial, Hoffman Park, Lansdowne Theater and more. Borough Council recently passed a resolution honoring him. He was a great leader and public servant and he will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
I want to urge everyone to fill out your 2020 Census form. I know there are a lot of other things on your mind right now but this is important for Lansdowne. The Census count decides how much funding we receive for infrastructure repairs, school funding, safety programs and many more. It is all based on our population. Currently we are just under 11,000 residents and if we drop to under 10,000 all of these areas will be affected. As of now only 64% of our residents have filled out the Census. This is lower than the 2010 Census count. Also the Census counting will end on September 30th. That leaves us only two months to get our numbers up to where they need to be. If you have not filled out the form please do so. It is easy- you can complete it online by visiting https://my2020census.gov/ . Information is also on the borough website. If you have filled it out thank you and I urge you to tell your family and neighbors to do the same. Let’s all do our part and make sure Lansdowne is counted and doesn’t lose funding for programs.
Thank you, Stay Safe.
See you around town.
Mayor Tony
