September 16, 2021 Letter from Mayor Tony Campuzano

Dear Lansdowne Neighbors,

What an up and down year it has been.  First it seems that we finally have gotten through the pandemic then the delta variant comes up.  Unfortunately we just have to be patient and vigilant by wearing a mask, limiting our exposure to big crowds and the most important thing is to get vaccinated.  We have gone through this together so far and we can get to the end together.  I’m sure we will.  In some ways we are getting back to normal and some of Lansdowne’s familiar events are back.

Our Annual Kids Halloween Party will be held on Saturday October 30th 11:00 to 1:00 rain or shine at the Landing in conjunction with the Farmers Market. This event is for all children ages 1 - 12. Children must be accommodated by an adult.  We are recommending masks be worn and we will practice social distancing.  We plan to give out trick or treat bags with goodies.  We are also bringing back the pumpkin patch.  A small pumpkin will be given to all trick or treaters.  Although there will be no costume judging I hope everyone will dress up to celebrate Halloween and give the kids something to enjoy.

Another event that we are happy to have again is our Annual National Night Out.  Because we could not have it in August, as in other years, we have named it Lansdowne Safety Day.  It will be held on Saturday October 2nd 12:00 to 3:00 at Highland Ave parking lot.  There will be games, food and demonstrations.  I want to thank Lansdowne Police and Fire Company and Lansdowne Business and Professional Association for putting on this event.  I hope residents come out, have fun and see their neighbors.

I want to congratulate Jocondia Pannell who after 40 years working at the front desk for the Police department at Borough Hall is retiring.  Jo as we all know her has been a fixture here in Lansdowne.  She has worked for five Police Chiefs and for 25 years has not taken a single sick day.  We thank Jo for her dedication and service to the borough and wish her all the best in her retirement.

Congratulations to Travers Food Market on Shadeland Ave for being named by the Daily Times as the Best Deli in Delaware County. Travers has been serving Lansdowne residents for 35 years and this is well deserved.  They have great people and great food.  I hope you stop by and congratulate Donna and Dave.

We have hired two new police officers for our department.  Officer Jake Lyons and Officer Michael Oulouhojian. They are on the street and both are doing a great job. We are hoping  to have our new body cameras for our officers up and running in November.  I feel this will be a great asset to our officers and for our residents.

At our September Council meeting, I was happy to present this year's Sycamore award to Lansdowne resident Joe Foley.  Joe is known to most of us in Lansdowne as the D.J.  who plays great music at many events here in Lansdowne.  Joe over the years has always been willing to help out with music and provide sound for borough events and other organizations events.  I feel he is exactly what I was thinking of when I started this award six years ago.  Joe does a great job making events fun and enjoyable.  I am so glad that I was able to present this award to him for my final Sycamore presentation.

I hope everyone enjoys the fall in Lansdowne.  Although things are not totally back to normal, there are still things to do and enjoy with family and friends here in Lansdowne.  Stay safe and please get vaccinated.

Thank you and see you around town.

Mayor Tony
