Mona Iannaccone
Mona is interested in a simplicity and elegance in her artwork. Whether it is a stylized ink brush line, and watercolor wash, a simple graphite line of fabric and form for a fashion illustration, or a modern, illustrative design, she strives to convey expression and form in minimal lines or shapes.
"Although these artworks for Women’s History Month are somewhat different from each other, and from some of my other work, the theme that I want to convey is the beauty in strength: The “Liberty” artwork was begun on Jan 20, 2017 during the first Women’s March, while I watched images of women all over the world in protest. What I wanted to show in the artwork was “Liberty” with a human face, a woman’s face. What I wanted to show on this woman’s face were the emotions that many of us were feeling that day: concern, fear, sadness, but also strength, resolve, determination, compassion and hope for the future. The colors of purple, white and gold are representative of women’s fight for suffrage. And, with recent renewed attacks on women’s freedoms, and voting rights, and just now as we all witness the assault against the liberty of the Ukrainian people, this still feels very relevant and powerful to me. I created the three fashion illustrations a long time ago and for my personal collection, and although they might seem very different from the Liberty artwork, they still speak to me of strength, boldness, confidence and beauty."
