September 23, 2022: Letter from Council President, Benjamin Hover

Benjamin Hover Letter (1)

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Happy fall!

The nice cool evenings of fall have ushered in a number of great events in Lansdowne with more wonderful community celebrations to come.

Economic Development:

Lansdowne Borough continues to attract new businesses and works towards the development of our business districts, neighborhoods, and quality of life in Lansdowne.

On September 10th, Mayor Magda Byrne and I joined Jamey’s House of Music to celebrate the partnership of Jamey’s House of Music with Conshohocken Brewery. With this collaboration, the Borough of Lansdowne can boast of a great microbrewery in our downtown with the #1 Musical Venue in Delaware County. See the press release HERE.

On September 15th, the Lansdowne Business and Professional Association hosted a wonderful Night Market and the many businesses in downtown Lansdowne stayed open and Lansdowne’s downtown hosted a great evening for neighbors and visitors. Thank you to the Lansdowne Business and Professional Association for this event. Also, thank you to Open Sound for hosting a wonderful concert.

On September 17th, Mayor Magda Byrne, Vice President Sinoe Naji-Taylor and I joined Camellia Coffee to celebrate its official opening after a long soft opening, in which many of us have partaken of the great coffee and snacks. Our community’s downtown continues to grow with the addition of this great venue. See photos HERE.

Also, on September 17th, the Borough of Lansdowne hosted a wonderful Community Walk and Bike Ride. While the work continues unabated on the Bike lanes in Lansdowne, we are pleased with the many neighbors and residents who attended the event. See photos HERE.

On behalf of Council, I want to thank the following Lansdowne and nearby institutions for their support: Vinyl Revival, Kia’s Cakes, Clifton Putt Putt, Sugar Shack, Bonnies wonder gardens, and WSFS for donating several bikes and ice cream for the day.

Also, Lansdowne is grateful for the support of Bike Delco, the Greater Philadelphia Bike Coaliton, the Delaware County District Attorney’s office, the Delaware County Transportation Administration, Senator Kearney’s Office, Representative Gina Hackett Curry’s office, and County Council in their support of the completion of the project.

Finally, thank you to the Lansdowne Police Department for their excellent support of the event. The officers on duty should be commended for their work with the many community members and their efforts to keep the community safe.

Upcoming Community Events:

***Reminder***

September 28th—Lansdowne Borough Council will hold a special meeting at 6:00 to provide the preliminary budget discussion with the community.

On October 2nd, the annual LEDC Arts on the Avenue Festival will take place in Lansdowne. Thank you to Debbie Brodeur, Susan Williams, and the many volunteers for organizing this wonderful event in Lansdowne. This great community celebration showcases the best of our community. And Lansdowne Borough Council is proud to be a co-sponsor of the event.

On October 22nd, the Borough of Lansdowne will host a free concert for the residents of Lansdowne at the 20th Century Club. We are delighted to collaborate with Minas to make this event happen for the Borough of Lansdowne. Click HERE to reserve your tickets.

We invite all residents who are interested in participating in local government to view the Boards and Commissions page HERE to view the possibilities. We also invite residents to attend the meeting of the Boards, Commissions, Council Committee meetings, and Borough Council meetings. Sign up for the newsletter and feel free to reach out to the Mayor or Councilmembers with any questions or concerns.

Hope to see you around town or at any of the many community events.
